Pulse Wave Therapy

This safe and effective treatment utilizes low-intensity sound waves to stimulate blood circulation to the genitalia. In doing so, growth of new blood vessels is stimulated and aged blood vessels are revitalized.

What is Pulse Wave Therapy?

Pulse Wave Therapy carries high energy to painful spots and myoskeletal tissues with subacute, subchronic and chronic conditions. The energy promotes regeneration and reparative processes of the bones, tendons and other soft tissues. Pulse waves are characterized by jump change in pressure, high amplitude and non-periodicity. The kinetic energy of the projectile, created by compressed air, is transferred to the transmitter at the end of the applicator and further into the tissue.

How Does Pulse Wave Therapy Promote Healing?

Multiple studies have proven that the use of Pulse Wave Therapy helps to repair aged blood vessels, stimulate growth of new blood vessels and remove decades of micro-plaque. Pulse wave therapy tends to affect denser tissues more proficiently such as tendons and ligaments and especially where they attach to bones, known as the enthesis. A disease of the entheses (plural) is known as an enthesopathy. Enthesopathies are common at the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and foot. These entheses tend to be the main target for pulse wave therapy. Pulse wave therapy also affects bone and may assist in bone stimulation and healing.

Research is currently offering a better understanding of the biological effects of pulse wave therapy. Pulse wave therapy produces a sonic pulse for approximately 10 milliseconds which may:

1.Create pressure waves within the target tissue leading to greater cell permeability with a resultant increase localized circulation and metabolism which can promote healing.

2.Break down abnormal deposits of calcium in soft tissues such as tendons (calcific tendinitis).

3.Stimulation of osteoblasts (bone building cells) which are involved in promoting bone healing and growth. Stimulation of connective tissue potentially through simulation of fibroblasts.

4.May reduce pain by acting as a counter irritant through the pain gate mechanism as described by Melzack and Wall.

5.Affect sensory pain fibres that are involved in transmission of pain from musculoskeletal and soft tissues.

Shockwave therapy may offer a unique ability to promote healing and these mechanisms may be very beneficial to persons suffering from chronic musculoskeletal pain.

The Benefits of Pulse Wave Therapy

NEW BLOOD VESSEL FORMATION

RELEASE OF TRIGGER POINTS

COLLAGEN PRODUCTION

DISSOLUTION OF CALCIFIED FIBROBLASTS

REVERSAL OF CHRONIC INFLAMMATION

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION TREATMENT

Medical Background

Pulse wave therapy used to cause microscopic interstitial and extracellular biological effects which include e.g. tissue regeneration. Application of pulse waves leads to significantly increased expression of growth indicators such as eNOS, VEGF, PCNA and BMP. Newly formed blood vessels improve blood supply and oxygenation which leads to faster healing. Pulse waves also cause mast cell activation which supports chronic inflammation reversal. Other effects include stimulation of collagen production, calcified fibroblasts dissolution and dispersion of pain mediator “substance P“.

Treatment with Pulse Wave Therapy

In 6 to 12 sessions each taking between 15 to 20 minutes, pulse wave therapy treatments:

  • Safety – No pills or pre-planning required.

  • Simplicity – No risk for patients with health conditions that prohibit other therapies.

  • Real Results – Patients enjoy the simple treatment with no downtime and lasting results.

  • Simplicity – Non-invasive, in-office procedure uses high frequency, low intensity sound waves without surgery or use of any drugs.

Pulse Wave Therapy FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

Most patients with chronic pain problems have been through various unsuccessful types of treatments. Up to 80% of the same patients worldwide report that Pulse Wave therapy has helped them eliminate their problem.

There may be a slight feeling of discomfort during the treatment, depending on the level of pain the patient is already experiencing in the area. However, since the treatment lasts only about five minutes, most patients are able to tolerate this discomfort. Additionally, the intensity of the treatment can be adjusted throughout the session.

Most indications require 3–5 treatments which are done 3–10 days apart, depending on the patient’s tolerance and their tissue response.

It is recommended that patients refrain from physical activity, especially one that would involve the treated region, for about 48 hours following each treatment session.

Most patients will experience an immediate pain relief following the treatment. However, within 2–4 hours after the treatment, they may experience some soreness in the treated area. This soreness has been reported as tolerable and not limiting.
